The use of lasers as a treatment tool has become commonplace in veterinary medicine. As such, it is essential to review the fundamental principles of light therapy in order to provide safe and effective phototherapeutic interventions. Understanding the physics and resultant effect of light interactions with tissue (photobiomodulation) will help practitioners provide optimal treatment strategies.
