An efficient numerical approach is presented to analyze the wide-band electromagnetic scattering characteristics using the general characteristic basis function method (GCBFM) with the model-based parameter estimation (MBPE). The general characteristic basis functions (GCBFs) are derived from the primary characteristic basis functions and the secondary level characteristic basis functions by applying a singular value decomposition procedure at the highest frequency point. These GCBFs can be reused for each sampling points without going through the time consuming step of generating the characteristic basis functions again. To avoid the reconstruction of reduced matrix at each frequency point, the MBPE is used to fast predict the surface current at any frequency point in the given frequency band and further realize the fast calculation of wideband RCS of objects. The efficiency is improved significantly compared with the traditional GCBFM. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed method is accurate and efficient.
