In this paper, the effect of polyamines on chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of leaf in Ilex verticillata under different NaCl concentrations was studied. The results showed the chlorophyll contents, variable fluorescence (Fv), maximum fluorescence (Fm), the ratio of the variable to maximum fluorescence (Fv/Fm), the ratio of the variable to minimal fluorescence (Fv/F0) and the photochemical quenching coefficient (qP) of leaf decreased with increase of salt concentrations and the duration of salt stress, while the minimal fluorescence (F0) and non-photochemical quenching coefficient (NPQ) increased. These results suggested that photosystem II could be damaged, causing some decrease of primary light energy conversion and potential activities of PS II and inhabitation of photosynthetic electron transport and primary photosynthetic reaction. However, polyamines can effectively alleviate the effect of salt stress on the chlorophyll, Fv, Fm, Fv/Fm, Fv/F0 and qP, increase the photosynthetic rate and improve the salt tolerant ability of Ilex verticillata.
