摘要

Of the total cargo transported in Brazil, at least half circulates through highways, of which just over 10% are paved. The creation of new links between existing highways and other transit modes can contribute to decrease road traffic, increase the cargo handling capacity through the national territory and, above all, lower the current cost of shipping. Considered the extension of the Brazilian's continental coast and its potential for cabotage shipping, this report will investigate the feasibility of using Roll-on/Roll-off vessels to carry loaded trucks and trailers between the ports of Manaus and Santos. Thus similar actions that have already been implemented in other countries - such as "Motorways of the Sea - MOS" in Europe will be investigated, as well as the way how such models could be adapted to the Brazilian context. Lastly Discrete Event Simulations will be run to verify our hypotheses about the dynamics of the system. The results show that the system is viable in economical, technical and operational point of view.
