Flora Fauna Characteristic of Winong Lake in Gunungkidul, Indonesia

Biology issue has received much attention not only locally, nationally and regionally, but also globally with the declaration of the Rio De Janeiro Declaration 1992 about Sustainable Development. At the local scale, Gunungkidul which is located in the southern part of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, Indonesia has one of the most unusual tropical karst areas in the world with a very high concentration of limestone outcrops including the potential lake biodiversity. Specified area of Winong Lake in Gunungkidul was investigated for the biology potential and water quality. The field survey and laboratory method are conducted to meet the objective. The flora fauna field measurement and observation are used to identify the biodiversity of flora fauna. Meanwhile, for plankton the laboratory analysis was conducted in order to identify species and to calculate the density using haemacytometer. Diversity index was formulated using Shannon dan Weaver formula. The result shows that it appears that the biodiversity of flora in Winong Lake is quite high. It is because the Winong Lake is located in a karstic ecosystem with high soil moisture which is likely to be lower than other places in the vicinity. Meanwhile, the number of plankton species found from lake water is as many as 73 species and dominated by Sphaeropila annulina (Roth) C.Agardh and Diplosigopsis sideratheca Skuja. The density of plankton in the lake water is as much as 1 275 × 10~4 individual · mL~(-1).
