As an internist who practices exclusively pain medicine, I find that my internal medicine training both shapes and informs my pain practice. Internists are well suited to treating pain, as the complexities of diagnosis and therapy favor a systematic and creative approach. I surveyed a healthy number of internists to ask what questions they still have about feline pain. The content of these proceedings and the presentation reflect my answers to those questions. My goal is to persuade the listener thatthe assessment and treatment of feline pain is usually possible applying tools that we already have. Additionally, I hope to convince the listener that separate, structured pain management can be the key to improving inadequate response to treatment ofsome feline diseases. These proceedings will introduce key concepts in feline pain assessment and therapy. The associated lecture is part of a pain management track at the forum which will consist of interactive, case based presentation with panel discussions of the case material.
