摘要

Capturing the ability of the immune system to fight cancer holds significant promise for the treatment of highly aggressive malignancies, particularly for prevention or control of metastatic disease. This is the rationale for considerable research over the past decade focused on the development of immunotherapeutics for cancer patients. But despite many encouraging findings in mouse tumor models the results of immunotherapy clinical trials have generally been disappointing. Unfortunately it is becoming increasingly apparent that the efficacy of tumor vaccines, adoptive T cell transfer and other forms of immunotherapy are limited by potent mechanisms of tumor induced immune suppression. Combination with treatment strategies to overcome tumor tolerance is clearly needed to improve the outcome for humans and animal with cancer.
