Offshore wind parks will play an important role in supplying the increasing energy demand while considering ecological and economical aspects. Especially floating substructures which have a great potential for offshore wind farms for water depths between 40 m up to 200 m and more will be of vital importance. The following paper will describe the path of development of the so called GICON~? - Tension Leg Platform (TLP) as one possible substructure concept for offshore wind turbines. The platform is meant to provide a solution for harnessing the power of offshore wind at depths of water between 20 and 350 m. A design for 700 m water depth is still in the development phase.
