Within the project "3DProCar", a worldwide unique process chain for the industrial scale production of novel high-performance hybrid yarns from recycled carbon fibres and polyamide 6 fibres for thermoplastic carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) is developed at the ITM. Multifaceted advantages of the developed hybrid yarns (homogenous mixing, high fibre orientation and low damage) enable to achieve about 90% of the tensile strength of virgin heavy tow in composites. The composites manufactured from the developed hybrid yarns show high potential for a sustainable production of CFRP for load bearing structures and hence suitable for applications required to promote electric mobility.
