Supercapacitors, lithium ion capacitors, and batteries will continue to compete for market share. Despite over 15 years of active R&D, specialized ("advanced") carbon have had limited commercial use in double layer capacitors because of their high cost. Volumetric capacitance (Farads per cm~3) is more important than gravimetric capacitance (Farads per gram).
