The optimal use of forestland to meet the 2°C target: BECCS vs. REDD(PPT)

1. BECCS+REDD: REDD is the dominant strategy: 1.1. It will be optimal to develop a forest sequestration at very low carbon prices while BECCS will come into play only at high prices. 2. BECCS vs. REDD: 2.1. Effects on regional forestland and forest types, 2.2. Effects on carbon removal in forestland and carbon emissions path, 2.3. Effects on global warming: REDD cuts emissions sooner with a reduction in the C02 concentration by 2100. 3. BECCS is a novel technology while a formal forest carbon sequestration removal can be applied immediately: 3.1. The policy implementation of a formal sequestration program will bring important challenges with the transfer of large sums of money to forest landowners (well defined property rights).
