Named data networking (NDN) is a network layer protocol that aims to replace the IP layer in the current Internet architecture. Currently, e-mails are sent from one mail server to another by identifying each server by its IP address. In this paper, we propose to develop an e-mail application that runs on NDN. The challenge in developing an e-mail application on NDN is to completely abandon the usage of IP addresses and concentrate on the ‘content’ to be sent or received. We intend to send a mail from sender’s computer to receiver’s computer over NDN.We propose to adapt the protocols used in e-mail transfer such as SMTP and POP to suit the characteristics of NDN.
