This paper studies infrared contactless sensors. There are growing needs for enhanced-functionality temperature sensors. The micromachined infrared (IR) sensors are designed, fabricated, tested, characterized and evaluated. We examine the nonlinear Seebeck effect, device physics, physical parameters and key characteristics. The existing solutions and technologies are discussed. Considering N×M sensor arrays, we address and solve infrared thermo-sensing and thermal-imaging enhancement problems in order to improve perception of information, enhance spatiotemporal accuracy, improve resolution, etc. The processing algorithms are developed and verified. Energy harvesting, energy storage and energy management are of an importance for autonomous portable sensors in aerospace, biomedical, consumer electronics, medical, reconnaissance, security and other applications. In many applications, networked IR sensors powered by renewable energy modules may guarantee autonomy. Experimental results for sensor arrays and energy management modules are performed. Our findings are justified and substantiated.
