Ground-based and space-borne optical remote sensing techniques are the most efficient means of studying aerosol particle parameters, properties, dynamics and lifetimes in the Earth’s atmosphere due to local and global climate changes (Sumit et al., 2011; Devara et al., 2013; 2014). The AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET), a ground-based remote sensing aerosol network of well-calibrated sun photometers and radiometers established in the early 1990s, is one of the most developed and productive facility for passive aerosol measurements. This network consists of over 700 stations world-wide that provide standardized high quality aerosol measurements and it continues to expand rapidly, which constitutes a valuable source of information for the establishment of local and regional aerosol characterizations (Cheng et al., 2012; Devara et al., 2013).
