The ultrasonic atomization (UA) method that atomizes liquid using an ultrasonic oscillator at a frequency of MHz-order has been utilized for separation and enrichment of species from their mother solution, humidification, and material synthesis. These droplets mainly consist of ultrafine ones less than 100 nm and coarse ones in micrometer-order size, which have a high amount of electric charge (Kobara et al., 2010). In the present study, we performed the preliminary studies on effective electrostatic collection of ultrafine particles (EFPs) suspended in indoor environments by contacting them with the UA-generated droplets to develop a new air purification technology without adoption of air filters.
