Thermal insoluble substance of Xilinhaote lignite (TISX) was subject to hydrocracking reaction in the presence of a solid acid catalyst, using cyclohexane as the solvent at 300 °C under pressurized hydrogen for 3 h.The resulting products were analyzed with GC/MS.In total, 177 compounds were identified in the products and they can be classified into alkanes, alkenes, arenes, phenols, esters, ketones,ethers and other compounds (OCs).Arenes are the most abundant species in the products with total relative content of 27.67% and the aromatic ring number of every arenes are not more than 4.The arenes and phenols are mainly derived from cleavage of Ar-(CH2)n-Ar and Ar-CH2-O-Ar type structures in the TISX through the transfer of H+ over the solid acid catalyst.
