The novel biophysical model was updated to describe the calcium (Ca~(2+)) dynamics and contraction force in rat cardiac myocyte. The influence of calcium buffers and the mitochondrial sodium calcium exchanger (NCLX) in the excitation-contraction coupling were studied. Simulations showed that these mechanisms impact directly on the ryanodine receptors by influencing the Ca~(2+) release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, altering the Ca~(2+) transient and, consequently, the contraction force in cardiac myocyte.
