IdeaLab: A Learning Factory Concept for Norwegian Manufacturing SME

The concept of a learning factory has become popular among industries and universities for its educational, practical training, and research purposes. There are specialized learning factories around the world covering various industrial issues on topics such as industry 4.0, lean manufacturing, and sustainability, to name a few. This article introduces the learning factory concept (IdeaLab) and its current state within the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Ocean Operations and Civil Engineering at NTNU I Aalesund. A multidimensional description model of the facility in the form of established learning factory morphology is used to describe the IdeaLab for applications in education, research, and training.
