Joung H. Lee, Deputy Director of Management and Program Finance of AASHTO, served as the moderator for this session. In approaching communications for garnering support for increased transportation funding, he suggested that we need to find messages that resonate and make the value proposition for transportation investment. This entails 1. Needs that are reasonable and relatable to the public; 2. Clearly identifying the potential benefits of investment; 3. Political leadership from the executive branch; and 4. Broad coalition of supporters beyond self-interested groups.
