The present study focuses on the aging response of semisolid heat treated Al-5 wt.% Cu alloy. Semisolid heat treatment has been employed to modify cast dendritic structure. Globular structure with grain size of 90±25 μm was obtained after semisolid heat treatment. Subsequently T6 heat treatment has been carried out on both as cast and semisolid heat treated conditions. The semisolid heat treated alloy is found to peak-age in 4 h at 170 °C after solution treatment at 500 °C whereas, as cast sample was found to peak age in 18 h. Semisolid heat treatment leads to higher Cu dissolution in Al-o and these accelerated precipitation kinetics during ageing.
