In last decade the development of new sensors, as for off gas monitoring, and the increase of elaborationcapabilities have been the basis for the improvement of systems devoted to EAF process modelling and control.Examples are off-line process simulators, off-line operating practices and charge optimizers, on-line controlsystems those have been recently improved .To support the improvement of EAF process efficiency and management, CSM developed a monitoring system('EAFPro') based on Key Performances Indicators (KPI) linking process performances (as metallic yield, power ontime, energy efficiency …) and practices applied accounting for different EAF configurations.In fact to improve process through practices and charges modifications to understand in a clear way the beneficialeffect of each countermeasure adopted is fundamental. In many cases, these actions induce opposite effect fordifferent performances (as metallic yield, power on time or energy consumptions), so a multi-criteria optimizationapproach have to be adopted.This is of outmost importance in case of automatic control system adopted.The CSM activity involving the complete EAF process monitoring and characterization to support the increase ofmetallic yield for the EAF of Acciaierie di Calvisano is here described including off-line process characterization,simulation of improved operating practices and on-line monitoring of relevant parameters.
