Introduction Among a large number of manmade chemicals, organochlorines such as aldrin, dieldrin, DDT and its derivatives (DDD, DDE), HCH (BHC), andPCBs are of great concern due to their highly bioaccumulative nature and toxic biological effects. These chemicals are persistent in nature, biomagnify in the food web and impose various toxic effects in marine organisms (Tanabe et al., 1997). Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), also existing as typical persistent toxic substances (PTS), have been of increasing concern in the world due to their salient features of persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity (Willett et al., 1998; Quan et al., 2003; Wong et al., 2005).
