摘要

Hydrogen, as an ultimately clean and completely carbon neutral energy carrier, has been considered as an ideal alternative for the conventional energy sources such as crude oil and natural gases. A revolutionary work was reported on 1972 showing that hydrogen can be generated from the photoelectrochemical splitting of water by using TiO2 and Pt electrodes. This groundbreaking work opened up a promising scenario of producing hydrogen by the reign of infinite solar energy. Since then, a tremendous research interests has been devoted into this field. During the past few decades, a myriad of semiconductors have been fabricated and/or examined for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from the cleavage of water under various experimental conditions.
