This paper describes the current bench-scale testing results that complete a two-and-a-half year study of the CO2-Binding Organic Liquids (CO2BOL) solvent. This solvent shows promise for reducing the power requirement for CO2 capture and solvent regeneration, with a combination of temperature chemically reversible solvent and the addition of a non-polar solvent that destabilizes the ionic solvent-CO2 complex and allows the CO2 to be released at lower temperature. We have termed this technique a "Polarity-Swing Assisted Regeneration (PSAR)". A full range of thermodynamic, kinetic, and bench-scale data are presented, followed by Aspen Plus? process performance projections of CO2BOLs with and without the polarity-swing phenomenon.
