Graphitic carbon nitride materials are unique organic polymeric semiconductors that absorb visible light. These photocatalysts have demonstrated great potential for hydrogen production from water and organic compounds. Previously, mainly silica templating was used in order to obtain C3N4 with sufficiently high surface area and thus high reaction rates. This fact puts severe constraints onto scalability of carbon nitride production. Here we present several artful approaches to overcome this difficulty.
