Since 2009, the US Government has committed over $6 billion to Pakistan Economy: 1.1 To address crippling energy challenges; foster economic growth, improve education and healthcare, and support domestic stabilization 2. USAID has committed over $1 billion to Pakistan energy helping: 2.1 Construct and/or retrofit Mangla, Tarbela, Satpara, Gomal Zam, Kaitu Weir, and a run of the river hydro electric plant and partly rehabilitate Jamshoro, Muzzafergarh, and Guddu thermal plants 2.2 Reduce losses, improve collections and improve the profitability and performance of nine distribution companies 2.3 Fund transmission lines connecting private projects to the grid 2.4 Improve energy sector policy and regulatory governance 3. USAID support has: 3.1 Added about 1,600 megawatts (MW) to the Pakistan national grid 3.2 Increased revenues at electricity distribution companies by $360 million 3.3 Improved electricity service to over 17 million Pakistanis.
