Callide Oxyfuel Project - Solution of CO2 Regulation to Coal Fired Power Plant

We are facing global warming, mainly due to the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration. Coal in fossil fuel is a major source of local air pollution and, as the most carbon-intensive fossil fuel, it is the main contributor to rising energy-related CO2 emissions [1], though it is the largest source of electricity generation. To decrease emissions of CO2 from power plants, we must enhance their efficiency and develop global CCS (Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage) technology. Callide Oxyfuel Project commenced with cooperation between Australia and Japan. Callide-A unit of the Project is now the largest operating oxyfuel power plant in the world. One of the main objectives of this Project is to demonstrate capturing CO2 from actual power plant for CO2 storage. The oxyfuel boiler has been demonstrated and has given us the various operation results under oxyfiring.
