Process mineralogy is a discipline focusing in applying mineralogical information to improve and solve problems within the mining processing chain (Petruk, 2000). This discipline originated with Jones & Fleming (1965) work and developed drastically in the 2000s with the implementation of automated mineralogy systems such as QEMSCAN and MLA, as historically summarized by Malvik (2014). The application of process mineralogy is a key aspect particularly in mineral processing, with many examples of successful application (Brough et al., 2013; Butcher, 2010; Goodall & Cropp, 2013; Lotter et al., 2011; Philander & Rozendaal, 2014), where major improvements can be achieved once mineralogical information is used.
