New cone crusher: excellent product control results in new potential for flow sheet design in high capacity crushing applications

Current high capacity crushing applications with cone crushers are dominated by so-called short head cone crushers without upper bearing and high stroke. They are a benchmark for high capacity crushers. Here the crushing gap is controlled by rotating the upper part of the crusher. The second type of cone crushers is equipped with an upper head bearing and a lower axial bearing similar to gyratory crushers. In that case the crushing gap is controlled by adjusting the main shaft via hydraulic cylinder. This allows a gap control even under full load, but the throughput of that crusher type is lower compared to the short head type.The new cone crusher concept combines the high throughput of a short head cone crusher with the excellent gap control by adjusting the main shaft by a hydraulic cylinder. The paper describes the main design features and shows potential applications for this machine.
