As of 31 March 2016, India's installed utility-scale hydroelectric capacity was 42,783 MW. Further, smaller hydroelectric power units with a cumulative capacity of 4,274 MW have been installed. India's economically exploitable and viable hydroelectric potential is estimated to be 148,701 MW
