R&D services firms play an increasingly important role in innovation system, which is often paid less attention compared to other services providers. This paper aims to build a contribution to literature on R&D services; furthermore it analyzes the dynamic performance of R&D services sector over the period 2005-2012 in five OECD countries with high R&D expenditure, i.e. US, UK, Germany, France and Japan, hoping to identify the main affecting factors and generate some policy recommendations.
