Enhancing Safety and Security of Networked FPGA-based Embedded Systems

Embedded systems are supporting our society in more and more ways, replacing former mechanical and manual solutions and they also assist us in absolutely new situations. They become indispensable to our civilization, therefore their correct and secure services are of utmost importance. But the new phenomenon of global networking rises another threat to our safety. Embedded systems are interconnected in a world-wide network, and the security compromise of a single device may impact the safety of a bigger system. This paper discusses the influence of security on the safety of a system of systems, and it presents researches on FPGA-based embedded systems which may resolve some of the posed issues.
