There has been significant work over the past couple of years to update existing or develop new code and standard requirements related to electric energy storage system (EESS) safety. An example of this work is UL 9540, which is an EESS safety standard for various technologies and can be used as the basis for certification of EESSs. For stakeholders involved in the installation of EESSs, it is important to identify the applicable codes and standards for your system. The location of installation, type of technology and application will impact this decision. In some instances, it may be beneficial to obtain a certification of your system for ease of installation. Communication with the local inspection authority can determine if this is necessary.
