The distribution of As and its species in rice is mandatory to determine the uptake, transformation and potential risk posed by As contaminated rice. In this context, a study was carried out to develop, optimize and validate an accurate and reliable to quantify the concentration of four As species, namely, As(III), DMA, As(V) and MMA as well as to characterize statistically the distribution of As. species in samples of domestically grown white rice marketed for direct food use in Argentina. Chromatographic separation coupled to atomic fluorescence detection resulted good enough to separate As species and quantify them properly and rapidly at ultratrace levels (0.020-0.025 μg .g~(-1)). Precision (expressed as intermediate precision) ranged between 2 and 10% and trueness (expressed as bias) ranged from 4 to 9% for the studied species.
