Arsenic speciation was determined in native ferns (Pteris vittata and Macrothelypteris torresiana) growing in an area near Nova Lima City, which has high background levels of arsenic due mainly from mine tailings. The arsenic extraction process for speciation was optimized. A methodology was defined for the speciation by HPLC-Diode Array UV detector.
