Multiple cropping systems are an important agricultural system in Korea, which is significant to increase forage yield and to promote famer's income.Three cropping systems were developed with the cultivation techniques in paddy fields in order to increase food self-sufficiency in southern region of Korea.This study was carried out to select a winter forage crop and to determine corn planting time for triple cropping systems at paddy field in southern region of Korea, and to examine the forage productivity and feed value of oat which was planted after corn cultivation.Winter cereal crops were used rye (Gogu), barely (Yohoo), wheat (Chengwoo), triticale (Shinyoung) and these cultivars were seeded on November 1.The fertilizer application was N-P2O5-K2O =120-74-39 kg ha-1.They were harvested on April 30.Maize cultivar was used 'Gwangpyeongok', seeded in May 7.The fertilizer application was N-P2O5-K2O =200-150-150 kg ha-1, and it was harvested on August 16.Then as a niche crop oat (High-speed) was seeded on August 28, and seeding amount was 200 kg ha-1.The fertilizer application was N-P2O5-K2O =63-52-27 kg ha1, it was 70% of standard.For the results, when winter cereal crops for forages were harvested in accordance with corn planter, the fresh yield and dry matter yield of rye were 32.0 ton ha-1 and 5.8 ton ha-1, respectively, showing higher yielding compared to other winter cereal crops.Corn silage as summer crop showed the fresh yield and dry matter yield of 72.1 ton ha-1 and 20.2 ton ha-1, respectively.The heading date of oat was October 10, and its fresh yield and dry matter yield were 37.6 ton ha-1 and 8.0 ton ha-1, respectively.Therefore, triple cropping systems for the production of forage throughout the year are possible with the introduction of oat in the southern region of korea, and rye could be the most suitable winter cereal crops for triple cropping systems.
