Should you ask a 6 year old what he/she wishes for a birthday present there is only one answer you will get: an ipad to play and connect with friends. That technology has met an upsurge in individuals' personal development - irrespective of age- is a fact. Both formal and informal learning make growing use of this, while obviously and inherently new skills are shaped to meet the 21st Century working environments. In such a given context, social media has merely become something you can't live without, even though some still say they can't live with it either. Used by most as a socializing tool ( as name itself calls it) , social media is keen on stepping into formal educational environments, either as a teacher-teacher tool for material development or as a teacher-student two-edged instrument in a virtual learning environment as a complementary stage for learning. The present paper will look at two cases as such: one where teachers only were involved in a project to develop assessment materials, while the other was an environment where both teachers and students were involved, in a virtual learning environment as a complement to the face-to-face teaching. The highlight is targeted at stressing the idea those social media offers inordinate solutions for a wide array of problems, provided creativity and pragmatism go hand in hand.
