MISO South Integration: Perspectives on Coal Generation

The generator demographics vary drastically in coal and gas resources. In MISO South, Gas fired steam turbines and CCGT represent 63% of the capacity contrasted with MISO North where only 27% of generation is gas fired. Of MISO North gas generating fleet, 64% are simple cycle combustion turbines while 36% are combined cycle. MISO South gas generating fleet is dominated by gas fired boiler steam turbines. In MISO South, coal generation provide 17% of the MW capacity contrasted with 49% in MISO North .While generator technologies vary, there are very similar aging infrastructure demographics in both regions. 48% of generating capacity in MISO South is over 30 years old. 60% of generating capacity in MISO North is over 30 years old.
