A mixed metal-oxide anode material, Ti/SnO_2-Sb_2O_5, is a candidate electrode for the electro-oxidation of organic compounds for treatment of wastewater. The catalytic efficiency of this material is dependent on both its surface morphology and surface chemistry. The surface chemistry was studied by photoelectron spectroscopy, and correlated with the electrochemical behavior through scanning voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy. The results showed that the surface activity of the anode material is dependent on the amount of antimony present. The mechanism of electro-catalysis with simultaneous oxygen evolution was also investigated, as this is an undesirable competitive reaction pathway.
