Electropolishing, the anodic dissolution process is considered to effective advantaged machining method which possess several advantages on electrically conducting and difficult to machine materials. Stainless steel type has improved strength by eluting intermetallic compounds of Cu, Al, Ti, and Nb through aging after heat treatment. Austenite has good heat resistance and corrosion resistance but poor strength. Ferrite, on the other hand, has hardenability but poor corrosion resistance and process ability. So, the aim of this study is to investigate the characteristic of electropolishing stainless steel alloys(austenite and ferrite) in terms of applied current, polishing time, electrode gap. And the optimum experimental condition about each parameters was obtained using by response surface methodology. Finally, the surface roughness and corrosion resistance of alloys improve remarkably, and the ultraclean surface has been obtained by electropolishing.
