Cyber Warfare Scenario and Military Application

A cyber - war scenario is presented, that is applicable according to modern battlefield conditions. This scenario eliminates misconceptions about current cyber warfare capabilities and defines realistic dangers that modern armies should be prepared for and able to confront in the context of the cyberspace. These dangers are further analyzed and the fundamental security conditions required in the battlefield are determined. These conditions are confidentiality, fast and reliable user identification and authentication, integrity of transmission verification and non - repudiation by users. Technologies are presented that provide the infrastructure necessary for attaining these conditions via encryption, user key generation and verification and digital signatures. An organization of cyber - space vulnerabilities and the relevant defenses in four levels is presented. Conclusions are drawn that demonstrate the manner in which cyber threats should be determined, their likelihood assessed and averted. This knowledge leads to the determination of implementable cyber tactics and effective organization of cyber operations.
