In this paper, an experimental study on the mechanical characteristics of two local unbound granular materials (UGM's) to be used for road pavements in Algeria are presented. The main objectives of the experimental study are i) to show the non-linear resilient behaviour of the two UGM's, under cyclic loading for pavement analysis and design in road pavements subjected to low to moderate volumes of traffic and ii) to determine from repeated load triaxial (R.L.T) tests the parameters of materials constitutive model to be used at later stage in non-linear finite element analysis of pavement structures. The measurement methodology for the resilient deformation characterisation of the local UGM's and the analysis of experimental results are described in some details. The experimental results show that measured and calculated strains are in excellent agreement for both local UGM's. It is also found that the materials mineralogical nature as well as the variations of shear stress ratio and mean normal stress have significant effects on the resilient behaviour of the studied UGM's.
