Investigation of changes in vibrational power flow patterns in plate structures when damage appears is presented in this paper. The case studies are performed with thin rectangular plates which are widely used in marine applications. Damage on the plates is simulated using Finite Element Method (FEM)as a through-thickness crack. The high stress region is located at the vicinity of the crack tips. The power flow is generated by a unit harmonic point force placed at the specific locations on the plate. The patterns of the power flow are demonstrated in the form of vector fields. When the damage arises on the plate, the patterns of the power flow at the location close to the damage change significantly. These changes at the plates show that the location of the damage is effectively detected by the power flow. The detected location of the damage in this case will be presented visually using only the power flow vector plots.
