Aiming at the problem of heat damage in the electromechanical chambers, mobile substations, the heads of belt as well as other high-temperature locations which are not included in the cold water cooling system, the paper studied the working principle of vortex tube and made a deep analysis in heat damage of the south central substation in Zhaolou mine. The rational controlling heat damage scheme that vortex tube is used together with building envelope has been put forward. Since the scheme has been put into practice, the personnel working environment was reduced to 10 ± 0.5 °C. The personnel working environment in the electromechanical chamber, in a manner, was advanced; the work efficiency of production and safety efficiency were also enhanced. The successful application of the vortex tube in the local cooling provides a new idea for the local cooling of other high temperature mines.
