Fluid dynamics interaction between refrigerated cabinets and Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) terminal units has an important influence on global energy consumption of a store. Cabinets energy performance is related to environment temperature and humidity, air velocity (module and direction) and the presence of radiating surfaces, such as radiating heating solutions. In this scenario, thermal load on cabinets can be reduced by proper selection of HVAC technologies. Air conditioning energy demand can be also reduced by the use of HVAC technologies that are optimized for the specific store layouts. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been used to investigate interaction between cabinets layout and different HVAC configurations and results are presented.
