Migration trends affecting population structure of Slovenia

In order to be prepared for future we must foresee and anticipate events and be prepared to deal with the consequences. In relatively stable environment such as demographic change and society as a hole we can try to identify influences and factors. Transformations in demographic structures have direct effects on the social and growth prospects of regions and cities. That is why is important trying to anticipate the future in order to prepare development strategies and to raise awareness of the problem among stakeholders and policy makers. The following paper is based upon material gathered from South East Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme co-funded project, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA), called Making Migration Work for Development (MMWD). The aim of the project was to support Europe 2020 regional strategy-making for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. There were 21 partners from 8 countries that were included in the consortium as local partners to help with identification of the most important regional and local challenges and translate them into territorial policy priorities.
