Study of phenolic compounds adsorption from wine on silica meso-cellular foam

Meso-cellular foam MCF was synthesized following a hydrothermal synthesis route with the following molar composition: 1 TEOS:0.017 P123:5.87 HCl:194 H_2O:0.05 NH_4F:0.815 mesitylene. This material exhibits a type IV nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm, it has a specific surface area of 588.2 m~2/g, a total pore volume of 2.53 cm~3/g and pores with diameter of 13.86 nm. The adsorption properties of the calcined MCF, as a consequence of the presence of silanol groups that are active sites for adsorption, were evaluated in the clarification process of red wine. The total polyphenols content (reduction) was investigated. The use of meso-cellular foam MCF in red wine treatment is feasible, softer and ecological.
