Species occurrence data are one of the pillars of nature conservation. They can provide an answer to questions about the species diversity of an area and how this has developed in time. In the White Carpathian Mts. (Bile Karpaty) such an analysis of data on species diversity was carried out with the help of information technologies in the period 2003-2006. The analysis included compiling historical field data, inventorying of the entire area, and processing of all data in a GIS environment. During the process specific problems were encountered, particularly geographic localization of some finds and taxonomic questions.
