In China, because it is difficult to pay the high electricity, resulting in a large number of highway tunnel illuminations is insufficient. In order to solve remote highway tunnel lighting power supply problem, we use the solar photovoltaic system, developed and built a solar lighting system in highway tunnel. This paper introduces the design and application process of this system. China has a vast land and numerous mountains. In order to reduce the mileage of highway construction, improve transport efficiency, a large number of highway tunnels were built in recent years. However, because charge of electricity is high, a lot of highway tunnel illumination time had to be reduced; resulting in highway tunnel is generally insufficient lighting, this becomes the traffic safety hidden danger. The new energy technology for remote highway tunnel lighting power supply has attracted attention by the researchers. In order to explore the highway tunnel lighting power supply method, we conducted a term of highway tunnel solar lighting power supply, and build a highway tunnel lighting test engineering. Our study lasted 5 years, through four stages, which include the indoor test, laboratory simulation design and test, test systems engineering design and experimental application, and theory summarize, completed China's first solar highway tunnel lighting system in 2007. Due to limited space, this paper introduces solar in highway tunnel lighting power supply system design and application mainly.
