The analyses performed indicate that the quality of the machining by laser is better than the molding procedure, in terms of hole shape and of local microstructural change. Regarding the mechanical properties, it can be concluded that the hardness and Young's modulus between the bulk and the "HAZ" remain the same. Also the comparison of the hardness and Young's modulus values between laser and mechanical texturing showed no significant difference. To summarize, the laser machining has been proven to be a very precise and fast machining method, without any alteration of the ceramic properties and improving the microstructural characteristics of the holes.
